Inter-Continental Caravan: 500 indiers, duizenden Europeanen.
Een maand lang zal een karavaan van 500 leden van boerenvakbond KRRS kriskras door Europa trekken.
Alle pers is welkom bij de aankomst van de eerste groep: 145 indiase boeren en boerinnen, zaterdagavond 22 mei. Om 18.30 is een persconferentie in de persruimte van Schiphol. Aankomst: http://utopia.knoware.nl/users/archief/NPG/zaterdag.html
Een maand lang zal Europa de bron van inspiratie zijn. Centrale thema's zijn onder meer: de invloeden van Gentechnologie en van Liberalisatie van de Wereldhandel voor de levens van mensen in ontwikkelingslanden.
In heel Europa wordt hun komst voorbereid. De meest uiteenlopende organisaties zetten zich in om er een waardevolle ervaring van te maken.
Dinsdag en woensdag volgt een druk program, met demonstraties, debat en vermaak.

Hierbij nodigen wij u uit voor de persconferentie i.v.m.de aankomst van 145 boeren uit India die in Europa hun stem komen laten horen over: de WTO en G8, genetische manipulatie, patenten op landbouwzaden, globalisatie en de machtsverhouding tussen Noord en Zuid.
Tijd: zaterdagavond 22 mei Aankomst van het vliegtuig (vluchtnr. hy247) is om 18.00 uur en u bent van harte uitgenodigd om de aankomst bij te wonen. De persconferentie zal beginnen om 18.30 uur. locatie: in de Persruimte van Luchthaven Schiphol
De boeren en boerinnen maken deel uit van de 500 boeren die de InterContinentale Caravaan vormen die Europa een maand lang zullen bezoeken.

Beste mensen, dear all,
Op 24, 25 en 26 mei a.s. zal een tak van de Inter Continental Caravan ontvangen worden in Amsterdam. 50 indiase boeren en boerinnen zullen hun ervaringen komen delen. Zij maken deel uit van een groep van 450 mensen uit indiase basisbewegingen die door Europa trekt om zich hard te maken tegen de negatieve gevolgen van . vrije handel. zoals zij die dagelijks aan den lijve ondervinden.
Indiase boeren worden direct geraakt door neo-liberaal macro economische beleid. Door het openbreken van de markten voor grote monopolistische conglomeraten, worden arbeid en grondstoffen over de hele wereld gemarginaliseerd. De indiase boerenvakbond KRRS heeft het initiatief genomen om in Europa aandacht te vragen voor deze zaken!
Vele machtscentra zullen worden aangedaan, zoals WTO-bijeenkomsten, de kantoren van de Europese Gemeenschap etc. Het hoogtepunt zal zijn de G8-topconferentie van 18 juni aanstaande. Er zal gedemonstreerd worden, en er zullen contacten gelegd worden met Europese bewegingen.
Bij deze wordt u uitgenodigd op de bijeenkomsten die in Amsterdam georganiseerd worden. Het programma bevat o.a. een demonstratie bij voedsel gigant Cargill, en verschillende inhoudelijke bijeenkomsten, o.a. in De Rode Hoed. Hier willen we ervaringen uitwisselen tussen de nederlandse basisbeweging, de indiase vertegenwoordigers en andere geïnteresseerden.

Learn about Terminator-technology. Coordinated by the Dutch Platform on Gentechnology.

Indian and Bangladeshi Peasant Women Speak on
Effects of Globalization on Reproductive Health and Agriculture
On the 26th of May (Wednesday), between 10 and 13 hours, about 25 peasant women and women representatives of peasant organisations from India and Bangladesh, will participate in an exchange of information and experiences on aspects related to the effects of globalization on their lives and health, with the staff and friends of the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights in Amsterdam. Their specific concerns about the introduction and promotion of hybrid and transgenic seeds will also be highlighted.
At 3 p.m. (15 hours) representatives of the women’s organisations from India and Bangladesh, together with the staff of the WGNRR and members from the Feminist Alternative for Another Europe and the Nederlands Platform Gentechnologie, will hold a press conference to draw the attention of the Dutch media to the concerns of these different interest groups.
The peasant women who will participate in the day’s activities at the Coordination Office of the WGNRR, are part of a delegation of Southern activists taking part in the Inter Continental Caravan on a tour around Europe together with European activists, to demonstrate against "free trade". They will also express their protest against multinational companies specifically involved in biotechnology, for instance, Monsanto and Novartis and institutions like the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the International Chamber of Commerce.
The Coordination Office of the WGNRR has over the past years expressed deep
concern about the rise in poverty among women worldwide and the cut backs on
the provision of public health care services which affect women and children
the most. The meeting with the Indian and Bangladeshi women will form part of
the initiatives that we undertake on the Day of Action on Women’s Health, celebrated
on the 28th of May internationally. For this year we have as our slogan,"Governments,
Put People First - not the Market!". We call on governments to put a stop to
the privatisation of health services and work towards ‘Health for All’ - as
agreed upon by international health organisations and national governments at
the historic Alma Atta conference
in 1978.
We, the staff of the Coordination Office of the WGNRR , invite you to come and participate in the press conference, to hear of the experiences of women from the grassroots, in a rapidly globalizing world!!
